About The Practical Pantry

The Practical Pantry began in 1998 as a recipe column for a weekly newspaper. From the beginning, the column has provided simple recipes that started with inexpensive ingredients most people have on hand or easily could find at a regular grocery store.

The Practical Pantry website consists of the following components:

Recipes: Having a pantry stocked with essential items makes mealtime easier if you have recipes that use those ingredients. I hope you’ll find that the recipes here utilize those pantry staples.

Comments: I hope you will find this new website format to be more interactive, since readers will be able to easily comment. For now, there will be a slight delay for comments to show up as I work to keep spam off the website.

Questions: I’m happy to answer questions about recipes and the ingredients that go in them. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll let you know. So if you send a question and don’t get a response within a week, you can assume the email didn’t reach me and you should feel free to try again. My email address is info [at] practicalpantry [dot] com.

Pantry Pointers: Each newspaper column contains Pantry Pointers that offer hints for selecting, storing, and preparing food. A few Pantry Pointers from past columns appear on the Pantry Pointers page of the website. This page will be updated regularly with different pointers.

Food Photography: Unless otherwise specified, all photographs are taken by me using a Nikon D-40. Occasionally I will use a light box, but many photos utilize the built-in flash and light from my kitchen window.

Product Reviews: Most product reviews on this website will be of products I already own or discover on my own. If a company sends me an unsolicited product, I may or may not write about it. I don’t guarantee positive reviews or product placement for any items I receive.
